Artist Biography
Natalie H. Reed’s practice is an investigation into one’s pining for the alter ego through documentation, appropriation and ritual. Her work incorporates the use of various materials in creating large-scale sculptures that demand agency.
Natalie’s studies and research have led her to investigate theories of the spectacle, object relation, absence and melancholy, with the outcome being perpetually unresolved due to the nature of identity. Her practice consists of modes of spatial theatricality and identity production while taking on a sense of pathos.
In 2024, Natalie obtained a Master of Contemporary Art at the Victorian College of the Arts. In 2021, she completed a Graduate Certificate of Public Art at Monash University. Before this, in 2010, she acquired a Bachelor of Fine Art Honours at Victorian College of the Arts, graduating with first class honours. She has received various awards, which include the National Gallery of Victoria Trustee Scholarship, the Substation Award, the National Gallery of Victoria Women’s Association Award, the Victoria Harbour Young Artist Initiative and the Contempora Initiative. As well as the Cranbourne Scholarship in Visual Art and Stuart Black Memorial Scholarship.
